More about this list

Much of Kraków chess happens behind school doors. The city programme Kraków gra w szachy runs regular afternoon classes in primary schools and out-of-school centres, free for pupils, and Krakowski Klub Szachistów 1893 teaches in partner schools where only that school’s pupils may join. Primary-school teams such as SP 48, SP 62 and SP 87 play in the regional league for teams without a club, and a kindergarten holds a chess championship of its own.

Universities have their players too: the chess section of AZS AGH co-organises a tournament in the AGH main library, and Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University sends a team to the Polish academic championships. District councils, such as that of Prądnik Czerwony, and the Wieliczka commune organise school cups and games, and the Saturday series of KKSz 1893 is reserved for the club’s own members.
